All aboard! RHCP has created a brand new app from the best-selling Little Red Train stories by Benedict Blathwayt. Available to buy for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch from today, this interactive app combines classic picture book charm from the much-loved series with innovative features to provide hours of enjoyment for children. They can read-along, with or without audio; record their own narration; discover sounds within the pages; explore some fantastic animation; and enjoy a brilliant narration by the fantastic Richard Briers.

The app contains an initial story, The Little Red Train, with two further stories, To the Rescue! and Race to the Finish available via in-app purchase, enabling children to build their own bookshelf of classic Little Red Train picture books. Every book read gains a special postcard from Driver Duffy at the end, celebrating the achievement for young readers of finishing a story.

To celebrate the Jubilee – and the publication of The Royal Parade – we’ve dropped the price of the Princess Poppy app to just 69p! That includes the whole of Ballet Shoes, with narration by Tamsin Outhwaite, and colouring and sticker activities based on the book. You can also buy Twinkletoes and The Birthday for £2.99 each, from within the app.

This offer only lasts for 2 weeks, so don’t delay! The Princess Poppy Picture Books app works on iPad, iPhone and iPod, and soon on Android devices too.

It’s finally here – the Princess Poppy Picture Books app! We’ve been working on this very hard for a long while here at RHCP, alongside our brilliant developers Robot Media, and today is the day it goes live in the iTunes App Store.

The app contains three books – Ballet Shoes, The Birthday and Twinkletoes – along with activities like colouring and stickering. Ballet Shoes is ready to read as soon as you buy the app, and the other two books can be unlocked with in-app purchases. You’ll also get regular letters from Poppy, delivered directly to your iPad, iPod or iPhone!

I’m enjoying designing my own ball gowns. Go get the app here!

RHCB have teamed up with Aurasma, the world’s leading augmented reality platform, to bring bestselling author Lauren Kate’s book jacket to life. When fans download a free app on their Smartphone then hold their device over the front cover of the book, the jacket image will come to life! A special video message from the author can also be viewed by ‘scanning’ the author photo on the book jacket. The app, which works on iPhone and Android Smartphones, as well as iPad 2 and iPod touch, uses Aurasma’s ‘virtual browser’ to recognise trigger images through the phone’s camera, which then generate video content directly onto the device’s screen.

Fans of Lauren Kate can download the FALLEN BOOKS app and bring the front cover of Fallen In Love to life. You can see it in action here: http://youtu.be/adLu3aYF6UU

FALLEN IN LOVE, publishing 2nd February 2012 is a collection of four intertwined love stories featuring the Fallen characters. Since the publication of the first book, Fallen, in December 2009, Kate’s series has become a bona fide smash hit with close to half a million copies sold in the UK alone. All bestsellers in the United States, the novels of the Fallen series: Fallen, Torment, and Passion, have become international sensations, hitting No.1 slots in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, rights have sold in 33 countries and counting. The final novel in the series, Rapture, will be released in the UK in June 2012 taking readers on a journey that will close the chapter on Luce & Daniel’s love forever. Hilzbrich comments ‘With almost 50% of teenagers in the UK owning a Smartphone (and an even greater number having access to an iPod touch) we knew that a large percentage of Lauren Kate’s fans would have one of these devices close at hand, and mobile phones play a very central role’

RHCB will also be creating augmented reality covers for two further titles this year; broadcaster Simon Mayo’s debut ITCH in March and Starters, a futuristic thriller by Lissa Price in April.

Very exciting! Let us know what you think!

Last year we serialised our supernatural romance Mortal Kiss on Stardoll.com – the world’s largest website for young women and girls, with over 100 million members. It was an online smash hit – over 17 million page views, and a fan club that now numbers almost 130,000 members.

Mortal Kiss

We had so much fun making the first book that we just had to follow it up with a sequel: Fool’s Silver, which is free to read over the next four weeks on Stardoll from today! Go and check it out here – and please let us know what you think of the cover artwork in the comments below?

So: you’re the proud owner of a shiny new iPad, or perhaps a Xoom, Streak, Galaxy, or other futuristically-monikered fondleslab. You’re living in the future. You’re practically gliding along the slidewalk on your hoverboard to the jetpack shop, which is run by a robot, and also we’re in space or something. But ask yourself this: isn’t there something missing, in this crazy high-tech world, with all its beeping gizmos and widgets and doohickeys?* I’m here to tell you that, yes, there is: PICTURE BOOKS.

Or rather, yes, there was, but RHCB Digital has got you covered. In Apple’s iBooks store right now you will find:

Scruffy Bears!

Book Bears!

Birdies!

Dogs who love books!

Wolves who love tasty cakes!

Brainy mice!

And ninjas! Because even in the future, there will be ninjas everywhere. Do you see any ninjas right now? Exactly.

For those of you with the Kindle app, you can also get Good Little Wolf, The Boy Who Cried Ninja, Scruffy Bear and the Six White Mice and Peely Wally in the Kindle Store.

Our army of submicroscopic nano-bots is, even as we speak, crafting more fine picture books for automagical wireless delivery to your gadget of choice,  so watch this space! Right, I’m off back to the holodeck. See you all soon.

*I’m also here to tell you that there’s a word for placeholder words like ‘gizmo’ and ‘thingummyjig’, and it’s ‘kadigan’. You’re welcome.

The wonderful Lauren Kate took part in a mammoth blog tour this month to celebrate the release of Passion in the UK.

Below are the links to each post, all of them are very different but give an insight into how Lauren writes and what inspires her to write such dark and romantic novels!
