What would George be without his dragon? Here are some of the best winged adventures to celebrate St Georges Day!

George and the Dragon by Christopher Wormell

However, despite his power and fearsome exterior there is something that this dragon is afraid of: mice. His secret is revealed when the little mouse, George, enters the story. Despite his small size and easy manner, George manages to save the day by scaring the terrifying beast off.

Beowulf: Dragonslayer by Rosemary Sutcliff

Beowulf: DragonslayerThis timeless classic follows the adventures of Beowulf, whose reign is threatened by the dragon that comes to set fire to his land. Of all his adventures, this is his final but most epic battle. Beowulf manages to slay the beast but tragically does not survive the battle. However, his death shows itself to be greatest sacrifice as he saves his people from the dreaded monster.

The Dragon Whisperer by Lucinda Hare

The Dragon WhispererQuenelda is the daughter of the Earl Rufus DeWinter, Commander of the Stealth Dragon Service, the force composed of humans and dragons fighting in a place where hobglobins threatened the very existence of both species. Quenelda isn’t like most girls, she doesn’t care much about girly things like pretty dresses; she only has a wish to fly dragons. In contrast, Root only expresses fear towards these beasts which is why being Quenelda’s esquire is extremely undesirable. However, the two form an unexpected friendship and when Dragons Dome is threatened are depended on to help defeat the dark forces.
