The prestigious CILIP Carnegie shortlist has finally been announced and Random House Children’s Publishers has three fantastic titles competing for the big prize – Blood Family by Anne Fine, which tells the absorbing yet gripping story about a young boy’s struggle to escape the horrors of his childhood, Ghost Hawk by Susan Cooper, an amazing and adventurous book about an eleven year-old boy’s fight for survival, and The Child’s Elephant by Rachel Campbell-Johnston, a story about the incredible friendship between a boy and an elephant. This is the third time Susan Cooper (world-renowned author of The Dark is Rising series) has been shortlisted for this award. Susan Cooper visited the UK last year to promote Ghost Hawk and receive her lifetime achievement award at the World Fantasy Convention.
As The Child’s Elephant is Rachel Campbell-Johnston’s debut novel this is her first shortlisting from the CILIP committee. Judging from the positive reactions from early commentators on twitter it may well not be her last!
Even more exciting is that, if Anne Fine’s Blood Family wins this year, this will be her third win and therefore she will be making Carnegie history (you can read here the interview she gave to the Telegraph this morning).
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 23rd June.Post A Comment
